SUMMARY:BS-PDN-Last: Towards Optimal Power Delivery Network Design With Mu
 ltifunctional Backside Metal Layers
DESCRIPTION:Min Gyu Park, Amaan Rahman, and Sung Kyu Lim (Georgia Institut
e of Technology)\n\nThe increasing demand to maximize PPA gains with backs
ide metal layers has driven their function beyond power delivery. This stu
dy introduces a novel BS-PDN-last flow, crucial for leveraging multifuncti
onal backside metal layers, by deferring power routing to the post-signal
routing stage. This approach addresses the IR-drop and performance trade-o
ffs inherent in conventional PDN-first flows. Experimental results show th
at the BS-PDN-last flow achieves a 90% reduction in Total Negative Slack a
nd a 12% performance gain with BS-CDN. Additionally, our work presents the
first comprehensive comparison of FS-PDN, BS-PDN, and multifunctional bac
kside designs, evaluated on both physical design and workload metrics leve
 raging accurate vector-based analysis.\n\nTopics: Design\n\nTracks: DES4:

 versity) and Kishor Kunal (Nvidia)\n\n
